Subhrakant Panda is the Managing Director of Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys (IMFA), India’s leading fully integrated producer of ferro chrome. With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, he is widely recognised as a business leader in Odisha and a prominent voice in India’s industrial and economic landscape.
As an Odisha industrialist deeply committed to value-addition in mining and sustainable industrial growth, Mr. Panda has consistently advocated for policies that strengthen India’s manufacturing ecosystem and global competitiveness.
Leadership & Industry Engagement
Mr. Panda served as the Past President of the FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry), becoming the first industrialist from Odisha to lead India’s apex business chamber. During his tenure, he worked closely with policymakers, industry leaders, and global stakeholders to advance the objectives of Make in India, enhance global supply chain resilience, and promote an enabling environment for industrial growth.
He is also one of the very few Indians to have held the position of President of the International Chromium Development Association (ICDA), a Paris-based global body representing the chromium industry. In this role, he contributed to international dialogue on responsible sourcing, sustainable mining, and the future of the ferro alloys sector.
Sustainability, Policy & Vision
A strong proponent of sustainable mining and green energy, Mr. Panda has led IMFA’s transition toward environmentally responsible and energy-efficient operations. His leadership reflects a long-term vision focused on balancing industrial growth with environmental stewardship.
As a columnist and thought leader, he frequently writes on economic policy in India, emphasising technology adoption in mining, job creation, value-addition, and India’s journey toward becoming a $5 trillion economy. His views bridge industry experience with national development priorities, making him a respected voice in public discourse.
Philanthropy & Social Commitment
Beyond business, Mr. Panda is deeply committed to social upliftment through the Bansidhar & Ila Panda Foundation (BIPF), the philanthropic arm of IMFA. The foundation works extensively across education, water and sanitation, healthcare, and women’s empowerment in Odisha, driving sustainable and inclusive community development.
His belief that industry must contribute meaningfully to society continues to shape IMFA’s CSR initiatives and long-term community engagement programs.
